On a 1-5 star scale it's a 6. Buy this bag. It's the best bang for the buck and SD warranty service is impeccable.
- Highest quality materials available
- Very lightweight and durable
- Track my down yielded that the 800 down fill is verified as 930 fill
- The foot opening is a brainstorm; love it
- A personal preference, but the zipper could be a bit longer
I'm stoked on my bad ass SD Nitro. The following is from my review(s) posted on SD's web store:
A big upgrade for my gear and a BIG HURRAH for Nate M. in customer service
First about the bag. I received my new Nitro 800 / 20 today and here are my first impressions. After fluffing it up I inspected it carefully. The fabric quality and workmanship are top shelf single malt, so what I expect from SD. Upon reading the fill specification before ordering it I was a bit hesitant as to whether this bag would fill my need, but I'm pleasantly surprised. The fill is proportionate to where it's located. This means that the upper and side chambers contain the major amount of down where it's most useful for warmth; estimating the loft at 2"-2.5".The the bottom is about half that and as down compressed by laying on it has little insulation effect, it makes sense to me. Also, the top chambers are proportioned for more down loft around head, torso and feet with less at the legs. I'd have preferred a longer zipper for the in and out, but the foot easement is an insightful need by those that designed it.
I think that it's an excellent bag that will serve me well for a long time and as such will be my GO TO. This rounds out my sleep gear, as I have a 4 lb. REI Radiant 0 degree 650 fill down bag for extreme cold and a 26 oz. Mountain Hardwear Lamina 45 degree Thermic Micro from eight years back. I sorely needed a 20-30 degree bag since my 2017 SD Zissou Plus /700 bag was returned for a warranty failure.
Enter the second and most considerable part of my review about SD's customer service. My email regarding a problem with my new 2017 Zissou Plus 700 was addressed the following day and I received an RMA and prepaid label Within a week I was notified that they wouldn't be able to repair and Nate M. offered a different one to replace it, as the exact bag was out of stock. I went with his suggestion, but found I didn't like it and returned it for credit to buy a one suitable; enter the Nitro 800 / 20 I upgraded to paying the difference.
Long story short, Nate M. was impeccable in all; quick to understand and accommodate me. THANK YOU!!! Kudos to Nate M. and SD for an excellent experience in resolving the Zissou's failure. It all worked out for the best. I have the better bag.Coyote on the NorCal coast on Jun 13th 2018
Update to my previous review and I'M STOKED AT MY "BADASS" BAG
This bag comes with a hang tag specifically for the traceable down fill. On the trackmydown web site by entering the lot code from the hang tag there's a page from Allied stating every bit of information concerning the down in my bag and I'm amazed to find out that though SD specifies it 800 fill it's certified as 930 fill and 94% large clusters. Wowsers!!! Copied from the Allied report: down cluster - 94.1% down fiber - 1.8% feather fiber - 1.6% waterfowl - 2.2% broken feathers - 0.1% quill - 0% landfowl - 0.1% residue - 0.1%

The only bag(s) I could find comparable were the Western Mountaineering at twice the retail price.
