Simple Squares Organic Nutrition Bar

The new kid on the block, Simple Squares is offering up a new alternative to the nutrition bar scene. They offer eight out of the ordinary flavors made from five all natural, organic ingredients together with different spices. These bars are not filled with grain or rice fillers but boast ingredients such as organic cashew, almonds, honey, coconut, vanilla,and sea salt. Several of the bars are based on spice flavors such as chili pepper, sage, rosemary or ginger. They are certified Paleo, contain no wheat, gluten, corn, soy or dairy. 

After taking a free sample of all eight flavors on my recent six-day backpacking trip along the Pacific Crest Trail and John Muir Trails I honestly didn't know what to expect. I have consumed a lot of nutrition bars over the years, I'm a big fan and of course, I have my favorites. So I was anxious to see what Simple Squares were all about.

I consumed these bars as a snack either at mid-morning or mid-afternoon while on the trail. The first thing you notice before opening the package is the bar is about half the size and weight of a normal sized nutrition bar, coming in at 45 grams. This turned out to be a good thing, especially for my wife who struggles with her appetite at elevation.

All the bars have a very light structure. They aren't all stuck together with heavy sugars and in two or three bites they are gone. The tastes were all pleasing in their own way, again with a light flavor touch. They worked really well as a trail snack, light enough to carry a bunch and providing enough extra energy to move down the trail.

I will definitely be bringing Simple Squares on future trips.
