photo: The North Face Men's Smedge approach shoe

PROS: Light, really light! Surprisingly supportive w/ 20lb pack. Very breathable. Sole holds well on rocks.

CONS: Sole seems wimpy, and I slip a bit on loose trails and surfaces. Feels like you have sport tires on a 4x4 Jeep. The shoes can feel narrow at first at the toes, but ok after you break them in.

SUM: Great pair of shoes for fast pace light hikes, pity about the wimpy sole though.

Use: fast hikes, steep terrain w/ 20lb pack
Break-in Period: minimal
Weight: very light
Price Paid: $100-ish
