I bought these late last summer (2009) for use in the 2010 season. My feet were measured and the shoes fitted in the store. At the time, they felt great, in fact, even now they still feel great in general walking, even with a load on my back.
This all changed after one simple 9 mile out and back trip on a rocky trail. To put it simply, my feet were slipping and toes smacking the end of the footbox. At the end of the trip I was so sore it took a day for my feet to get better.
There is extra room for my toes in the toe box and I didn't really feel my feet moving around a lot inside the shoe. So not sure what has taken place here but these shoes definitely aren't for me.
In addition to this, there is a terrible squeaking coming internally from the sole itself. Even if I didn't have this issue of the toebox I think these shoes would be delegated to picking up dog poop in the yard. There is nothing more annoying than walking down a trail listening to "squeek" "squeek"
I have contacted Vasque's customer service department to see if this squeaking is normal. I wonder if they have a warranty? I will edit my review after they get back to me.
15 ounce weight per shoe (size 13) - Comfortable lacing system - very breathable - Large protective pad over the top of toe box to protect the shoe on stubs and stumps
Single density EVA midsole means they will break down fast, but, Vasque has inserted some kind of "spine" into the shoe to help prevent that. - Mesh fabric easily prone to scrapes (already have a small hole in the fabric from a rock or something)
Use: Backpacking Trips / 25 lb pack
Weight: 15 ouncs per shoe
