Wellco Black Work Boots

rated 0.5 of 5 stars

Wellco is no longer in business, and the Black Work Boots has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best backpacking boots for 2024.

The leather skin looked fine till worn. Cracked and peeled on sides and top of foot DAY ONE they were worn. Worse than fake leather, apparently dry rotted underneath the shiny part.

Pros

  • Soles look good and sturdy
  • Steel toe good for factory work

Cons

  • Leather skin is thin and cracks immediately
  • Skin peels off in chunks where feet bend

I bought the Wellco steel toed black boots for a friend starting a new factory job. They listed from $58 to  $169 on eBay. We got the shiny brand new Wellco black work boots for what seemed a very good price. They looked great and he said they felt good.

He just wore them YESTERDAY for the first time to orientation tour for his upcoming new job . When he came home and took off the boots we both were shocked! The shiny black 'leather' skin had cracked all over the mid foot section on the sides and was peeling off!

These are brand new!

They hadn't a scuff before he put them on initially.

I've never seen any real leather boots have such a thin skin~ not even sure if what's underneath is leather or not as it so dry. We'll have to be trying out a lot of leather conditioners to try to salvage them to use. We can't return them where we bought them.

Seems there is no direct Wellco place to contact over these defective leather boots. Maybe that's why none are listed as available on a lot of sites. Kind of makes me wish I had seen how many are no longer selling these Wellco boots and that they were not made to be worn!

It's embarrassing to buy what was supposedly good work boots for someone that turn out to be no better than a $19 fake leather knockoff at Walmart. At least the Walmart ones never peeled on first wear.
