Western Mountaineering Alder

rated 5.0 of 5 stars

The Alder has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best 3-season down sleeping bags for 2024.

I'm a "wide body" and I don't sleep well when my legs are constricted. This bag was a good choice for me, enough to use as a comforter in warm weather but not-to-drafty in cooler temperatures.

It compacts well, especially with a compression sack (considerably better than my wife's 600 fill down bag of comparable warmth). I had the bag overstuffed- adding two ounces of weight, but gaining at least five degrees of temperature comfort. The workmanship is very good, and I've had no problems with durability.

Other bags offer less expensive options with as much warmth, but not with as little weight and compactability. This may be the last warm-weather bag I ever need, so the price is readily amortized.
