If you are looking for an affordable, ultralight shelter for summer bivouacs or as a shell to another bag, look no further. The Wiggy Bivy Sack is outstanding. The sack is your basic bivy with a twist: the chest section is insulated with Wiggy's proprietary fill, Lamilite, which means that for summer ultralight ventures you can pack tent AND bag into a nice small stuffsack (built in) for 2 pounds total weight.

Other features include stake loops, a nice pre-bent Easton aluminum head pole, mosquito netting, and a windbreak flap that folds out of the way.

The unit is waterproof except for the chest section, which is highly breathable. If you are bound for the rainforest, this is not your sack, but for Rockies or Sierra weather, it is perfect. In the event of a deluge, you will get wet but not cold - and it is common to read about people waking up in a Wiggy bag to find that their body heat has dried the bag in the night!

This dedication to breathability is no joke, either. Waterproof bivy sacks have justly developed a reputation as "sweat sacks", and I am the most profuse perspirer I know. Having tried Wiggy bags on several different occasions now, I will continue to propagate the word that this is the best insulation ever invented. It DOES work when wet. It is comfortable over a larger temperature range than anything I've ever tried. The temperature ratings that Wiggy quotes are correct, if not conservative.

I will use mine for any solo trip I can imagine here in Colorado. Already it has served me well up above Colorado National Monument in early May and in Utah's Henry Mountains in April. When the temperature drops, I simply use the bivy sack over another of my Wiggy bags, and life is very, very comfortable, come what may.

Quite frankly, I haven't found ANY Wiggy item that I would not recommend. They are all hell-for-stout, dependable, durable, maintainable and they perform! In this case, though, the bivy is a standout because of its amazing utility for the backpacker.

If you are in Grand Junction, stop by and talk to Jerry Wigutow about outdoor philosophy and the outdoor industry. You will find that he is very personable and approachable, and you will quickly see that he understands his customers as well as his business. That is a trait not commonly found in the outdoor industry today.
