I really wanted to like this meal. But in the end, it was very disappointing.

Pros

  • Natural ingredients with no preservatives
  • Excellent nutritional profile
  • High in protein
  • Low in sodium

Cons

  • Ingredients don’t reconstitute well
  • Pretty flavorless

While shopping for some last minutes supplies for a trip to Yosemite, I ran across this newish brand. I liked the nutritional profile, and the lack of preservatives and chemicals, so thought I’d give it a try.

I really liked the nutritional profile of this meal

After a long day of hiking at Hetch Hetchy, I was looking for a nice protein hit for dinner. I followed the directions precisely, adding the exact amount of water and olive oil packet, and stirred well. It said to wait “ten minutes or more…” since I was at a little bit of altitude, I thought I’d wait a few minutes longer than that to give it a chance to cook thoroughly.

There is an optional olive oil packet included

I opened the pouch and give it another thorough stirring, and took a bite. The quinoa had still not constituted and was really crunchy. The chicken was super chewy, and almost inedible.

Sorry, but it looks better than it tastes

In an attempt to rescue the meal, I added a tiny bit more boiling water and stirred it, and let it sit for a few more minutes. I took a few more bites, but it really didn’t help. On top of that, there was almost no flavor at all. In the end, I choked down about 2/3 of it, but ended up throwing the rest out. I ended up having a protein bar as the rest of my meal, which was not ideal, but it was my only alternative on the last night of my trip.

I really wanted to like this meal, but was disappointed when all was said and done. I cannot recommend this meal.
