Wilderness Equipment Second Arrow

rated 5.0 of 5 stars

Two-hoop, bulletproof, 4-season tent. Have also used in heavy snow and wind with no problems. Sheds snow very well and stable in good winds. Absolutely waterproof -- mine's never leaked in 4 years of regular use in much rain. Very comfortable for 1 person with gear inside, or 2 people who know each other well (or want to get to know each other) with most gear in vestibule. Vestibule can be made longer for cooking inside by rolling back floor with inner zipped open and out of the way -- very nifty. Fly pitches first -- separately or already attached to inner for a quick pitch in mongrel weather. Good ventilation via sloping roof. Great tent -- my best piece of gear.

Design: 4 season wedge single entry
Sleeps: 2
Ease of Setup: No problems with a little practice - can be a little trickier with mitts on
Weight: 2.6 kg
Price Paid: approx $750 Australian

In '98 I bought this tent to cycle from Perth to Brisbane - Absolutely bullet-proof in all conditions.

In 2000, I took the same tent to Tierra del Fuego and cycled north through Patagonia through rain, snow, hail and winds you have to experience to believe. The Second Arrow took it all. One night, because of a wind shift the rear pole distorted, but that was all. That morning, the wind was so strong I only managed 3 km in 5 hours.

If you want to travel light, but need a tent that is livable for weeks on end, this is the one.
