A lifetime of living in the outdoors, Scouts, camping, hiking, canyoning, active service with the Army (veteran) and United Nations, X/C skiing, Mountain Climbing (Army Instructor), rock climbing - not very good :-) I have been spent 40 (+) years in the outdoors.
My winter experience covers most of the Australian alps, Antarctica, NZ, Patagonia, winter Germany and lots of cold nights on army exercises, some in the snow.
Have also spent a lot of time in various deserts, wet-desert's and jungle. I spent six months serving with the Army / UN in Namibia with UNTAG.
In recent years, most of my outdoor efforts have been taking my kid and his mates hiking in places like the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney.
Alicia wrote a more detailed profile on Trailspace when I won Kahtoola crampons and traction for my review of my Macpac Olympus tent. There is not much snow at this time of year in Oz so I put my new MICROspikes on my MontBell Alpine boots, walked out my back door, about 50m across to the park under the Sydney Harbour Bridge and took a photo of them with the Opera House in the background!
I would like to try Snowshoeing and Packrafting! But that means a whole load of new gear!
