Since I retired a few years ago I've been camping and backpacking significantly more. Until this year, my main destinations were the Boundary Waters for canoe camping and either the Smokies or Ohio for backpacking.

The summer of 2014 however, I took it up a notch and thru-hiked the Colorado Trail, 486 miles from Denver to Durango. It was just an amazing trail that took 32 days to complete. My pack on that trip weighed 21 pounds, plus food and water.

Although I haven't talked myself into trying the AT just yet, I have hiked some additional "shorter" long trails. These include The Long Trail, John Muir Trail, Sheltowee Trace Trail and the Tahoe Rim Trail.

I've also been a freelance writer for many years and have published my five books on backpacking and camping. For example, my first happened to be be about my hike on the Colorado Trail.
