A small, simple, inexpensive and efficient device to extract that last drop of gas from almost-empty canisters into one. Very useful at home between outings, but can come handy to refuel during trips as well.

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Compact
  • Lightweight
  • Inexpensive
  • Well-made and durable
  • Works
  • Ecological

Cons

  • None I can think of

This device/adapter is made in China and can be found under various brands; mine‘s from Campingmoon which also has a host of camping and backpacking cookware such as stoves, windshields, etc.

It’s a simple two-way Lindal adapter with a valve that allows for transferring of gas between used canisters, consolidating all those semi-empty ones into a single canister.

Before purchasing the adapter, I used to exhaust semi-empty canisters from previous trips during quick roadside stealth camping, or backyard/maintenance camping. These are short and doesn’t have much cooking, so no need for full, heavier gas canisters.

But I figured the multi-adapter would help tidying up the old canister collection, and the idea of extracting the remaining gas from empty canisters seemed clever economically and ecologically.

The Campingmoon Multi-adapter comes with simple and clear instructions.

Just leave the “donating” canister a few minutes in the sun to warm it up a bit, chill the receiving canister in the fridge (or leave it outside if it’s cold enough), thread each on one end of the adapter (according to the IN and OUT icons engraved on the aluminum body), and open the valve to start the transfer.

You hear the gas flowing from one canister to the other, and once the hissing sound stops just close the valve and disconnect the canisters. The process should be done with the setup in upside position, with the “sending” canister on top. It does work very well indeed, every time.

There’s a release button on the side of the adapter to allow for discharge of excessive pressure on the receiving canister. The above were the only instances in which I had to do that because my canisters were half-full, but that’s not necessary for low-gas or almost empty canisters being refilled.

The “vent” hole and release button, used when the receiving canister has too much pressure to allow for the gas flow from the sending can.

The multi-adapter is well built, everything in aluminum and metal, it’s also pretty small and lightweight.

I’ve been using the Campingmoon Multi-adapter for almost a year now and it’s like new, this thing should last forever if used correctly.

I like to do the gas transferring at home, between outings however on more than one occasion I arrived at camping sites to rest, refresh and refuel, and came across a box filled with discarded canisters—which I gladly used to refill my half-empty one for the rest of the trip. Once after topping mine I was able to fill up a second one, all from semi-emptied cans.

Before, I had never paid attention to those canisters, but since carrying the Multi-Adapter I do, all the time.

If you plan on buying and using this kind of adapter, be aware it should be used to transfer only same-type gas between canisters, and the original maximum capacity should be respected (i.e., avoid overfill).

But if you have a set of semi-empty gas canisters around, the Multi-Adapter is a simple, cheap, and effective way to save a few bucks, organize things, and help the environment a bit.

I bought the Campingmoon Multi-Adapter new and have been using it for almost a year both at home and during trips, with no issues. It’s small, lightweight, well built, inexpensive, and works well when instructions are followed.
