It seems the older I get the more things I have to deal with to continue to enjoy the hiking and backpacking that I do. One item that I don't recall ever having to deal with when I was younger is chaffing in various areas that after a day or two of longer hikes, would be uncomfortable enough that I would need several days to recover before hiking again. To address the issue I went out and started looking for something to help prevent chaffing and discovered there are an incredible number of products available that come as sticks or creams.

Well I found that there was a solution to my problem, but now I had a new problem with trying to figure out which product to try. If you read all the reviews that are available out there you'll find that there will be people who either lover or hate each of the products, so in the end how I ended up deciding to try this product was from a recommendation by my daughter. My daughter was pretty hard core into running at the time and happened to point out that a good friend of hers was pictured in an ad for Chamois Butt'r ridding a road bike in the hills of the Bay Area. I figured that was good enough reason as any, so I ordered some up on Amazon.

I have been using this product for almost three years now and it has completely eliminated any issues I had with chaffing. I apply the Chamois Butt'r in the morning to the areas where I have the potential to chaff and it will last the whole day even if I am doing 15 or 20 miles.

I buy the product as a box of 10 .30 fl oz. packets. When applying the Chamois Butt'r a little really goes a long way. When I am doing a longer backpacking trip one .30 fl oz. packet will easily last me three days, so it adds very little weight to my pack especially knowing that I will have an enjoyable trip void of any chaffing. The product is a very white cream that is firmer than something like a hand lotion and is not runny or oily. When applied to your skin it goes on smoothly and becomes transparent and I have never had any issues with it staining any of my clothes.

I have started to use Chamois Butt'r on my heels and toes to help prevent blisters and it seems to be helping.

I think Chamois Butt'r is a great product to prevent chaffing and I don't have any plans to try other products as once I find something that works, I stick with it, and Chamois Butt'r works!
