Crux X1 Assault
Best For: The Crux X1 Assault tent is best for climbers and mountaineers.
Crux added an external Cuben fiber porch to its X1 Strike tent to make the X1 Assault. The added porch gives climbers a sheltered entrance with room for gear storage and cooking, and also protects the tent’s inner entryway from the elements.
Like the X1 Strike, the X1 Assault features a three-pole design: two external diagonal poles with sleeves, plus an internal pole for increased headroom at one end of the tent. Guy points on the X1 loop around the poles to take direct stress off the seams.
The single-wall X1 Assault is made from Crux’s waterproof-breathable X-Tec, a 50-denier, polyester ripstop fabric. Crux designed X-Tec with an internal coating of activated carbon particles to help absorb moisture, stop drips, and let the fabric breathe.
The X1 Assault also features a central roof vent and a mesh panel in its door for increased ventilation against condensation. The roof has a “donut” tie-in loop allowing occupants to stay clipped into anchors.
The two-person X1 Assault shelter weighs 4 lb 5 oz (1.95 kg). Crux designs and manufactures gear specifically for mountaineering and climbing.
