This is an excellent freestanding tent for two people. It is actually roomy enough for two and it has plenty of storage pockets inside. It's very lightweight and sturdy at the same time.

Pros

  • Fits two wide/long pads
  • Easy to set up
  • Sturdy
  • Very light
  • Well thought-out

Cons

  • Could be a bit lighter
  • Requires 6+ stakes

I've been on the lookout for a lightweight 2P backpacking tent. I tried some of the name brands, but they were all too small for my spouse and I who are both around 6' tall. However, after checking out the MSR Hubba Hubba LT 2P, I finally found a keeper. The Hubba Hubba LT 2P has a rectangular 88"x52" floor. It fits two long/wide pads just fine. And there is adequate headroom for two people, even when sitting up. The multiple storage pockets inside also help for gear placement when in the tent.

It's nice having a freestanding tent for spots like this.

One thing I like about this tent is that it is symmetrical. That is, both sides are the same. There is no head or foot side to the tent because the floor is rectangular.  This makes it easier to set up. The rainfly also has vents and two-way zippers for added venting. We haven't been rained on hard for long periods of time in this tent, but so far for us it has handled rain just fine.

There is a large/long pocket on both ends of the tent, as well as ceiling pockets.
The tent does require six stakes to set it up fully with the rainfly. If you want to pull out the head/foot ends for more ventilation, you need two more stakes (or sticks, which I prefer for non-essential pull outs). We do try to stay very light when we backpack, so we didn't use the included stuff sack, and we didn't take all the guylines. With a minimalist polycro footprint, six stakes, the rainfly, and poles, the tent weighed around 3.5lbs for us. Split up between two people on trail makes for a very light shelter setup. I wouldn't mind if this tent were 6 ounces lighter—they could have cut some corners to do that—but as is, it's pretty light for a solid, big, freestanding tent.

The bathtub floor goes up a few inches—and on top of it is a few more inches of a grey privacy fabric.

We have slept in this tent without the rainfly on those clear nights, which is wonderful. The mesh netting does have an area of gray for privacy, which we also like. The zippers are sturdy and we had no problems with any parts of the tent. I wish you could roll both vestibule doors back for a bigger opening, but as is you have to leave half the vestible staked out. Not a deal breaker, but something to note.

Overall, this is a great lightweight 2P backpacking tent. I was able to get this on sale, which sweetened the deal. After trying other big-name brands, as I mentioned, I settled on this Hubba Hubba LT 2p because it is big enough for two tall people and it has great features while being slightly over 3lbs.
