Dana Design Glacier (External)

rated 4.5 of 5 stars

Dana Design is no longer in business, and the Glacier (External) has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best external frame backpacks for 2024.

I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail with this wonderful pack and would recommend it to anyone. After all the AT hiking and the weekend trips since, I have never had a problem with the pack's comfort, durability or performance. It is a decent weight and seems to be the perfect size, accommodating my largest winter loads adequately. It is very adjustable, with all Dana packs allowing interchangeable shoulder and hip belts. My favorite add-on is the Dana wet rib, a little pocket that clips to the waist belt. I kept my camera, maps and snacks (there's space for a water bottle, too) in this pouch with great results.
