Ecco Women's Yucatan Sandals

rated 5.0 of 5 stars
photo: Ecco Women's Yucatan Sandals sport sandal

Amazing comfort, lightweight, indestructible.

Pros

  • Good traction
  • Very comfortable
  • No blisters!

Cons

  • Velcro does collect debris and will presumably wear out.
  • Your toes are exposed.

I got these at a thrift store, already used (though not much), and try as I might, they simply will not wear out! Had them three years now, wear them a lot, even use them for backpacking. They seem indestructible.

No blisters! I always had blisters with hiking boots, but not with these sandals. The foot pad has form fitting gel pads and the straps are carefully padded to eliminate any points of friction. With socks or without, no blisters. Easy to cinch them up tighter when you take off your socks.

The Ecco website says they don't recommend immersion in water, but I have done that many times (for stream crossings), and they dry out just fine with no ill effects. (Like I said, I got them in a thrift store, so was ignorant of this proscription.)

I love not getting hot sweaty feet and still having pretty good protection. They don't have protection for your toes like the Keens, but those shoes never fit me very well anyway. The toe-box only fits one kind of foot and it aint mine. The only thing I miss the hiking boots for is ankle support, but these are about as stable as they can get, with good traction on loose surfaces.

If these ever wear out, I'll buy a pair for retail.
