I bought this top at my local EMS because I wanted a lightweight, wicking, quarter-zip shirt for aerobic activities like running and cross-country skiing. I already have some lightweight crewnecks and heavier zip necks, but was looking for something lighter that I could vent as needed.
What I like about the Techwick Lightweight Quarter Zip is that it's light and wicks and dries fast just as promised. It has a nice soft feel to it. It has a decent women’s semi-fitted shape, not too tight, but not too boxy either. It also didn’t cost an arm and a leg for its performance capabilities ($35). I’m generally happy with the top except for a few issues.
When I tried the top on at EMS I noticed that the arm length in the small size was bordering on too short. I tried on a medium, which gained a slightly longer arm length (although still not overly long), but which was too baggy overall. So I went with the small.
After wearing and washing this top for the past six months or so the arms are now annoyingly short. I wish they were at least two inches longer than they are now. I’m 5'4", so it’s not that I’m too tall, just that the arms are too short. It bugs me every time I put on the shirt, although I keep on wearing it for all of its positive reasons. For others out in the cold a big gap between where your sleeve ends and gloves begin could be a cause for concern or aggravation. Also, while the top’s torso length is adequate, I’d prefer it was lengthened another inch or so too.
While the rest of the shirt has held up fine so far, the left sleeve’s seam has become to pill and is now a little fuzzy along the length of it (like it has been pulled by Velcro or something, which hasn’t happened). I’m not sure why this happened on this one seam, but it has. Otherwise, there are no signs of wear.
So, those are my two issues with this Techwick zip top. If the arms were lengthened I would be very pleased with it and would consider buying another one. It wicks and dries very well and has (mostly) retained its overall shape. It also has a nice smooth finish and the price isn’t too high. Until the arm length is fixed though, I wouldn’t buy a second one.
