Absolutely necessary for hiking in the Canadian Rockies.

Pros

  • Detailed
  • Accurate
  • Up-to-date
  • Waterproof (some maps)

Cons

  • None

Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, the Columbia Icefield, Yoho, Kootenay and Waterton Lakes, as well as nearby Kananaskis Country.

If you're hiking in the Canadian Rockies, you HAVE to have Gem Trek maps. Unlike government topos or Parks Canada maps (not enough details, too big a scale, out-of-date, inaccurate or incomplete trails) the Gem Treks are maps for HIKERS!

They are broken down by area and show every trail, as well as elevations and geographic features. In addition, on the back you will find accurate descriptions of each of the trails shown, including what to expect as you hike along. A complete set will cover every area in the National Parks, and the price for them all is well worth it.

If you've ever wanted to go hiking in the Canadian wilderness, get them.
