Like many of us I’d like to include my dog when I hike, however she is limited with the amount she can do, both because of her size and she is starting to get older. The K9 Sport Sack Plus 2 lets you bring your furry friend along for the experience and also carry a few essentials such as water and snacks with a detachable pouch.
Now don’t get me wrong, carrying Fido plus said essentials up to your favourite lookout certainly adds weight to the journey (for me about 9 - 10kg) further resisting gravity on the incline, but I personally see this as a positive as a training tool to strengthen my leg muscles.
Putting your dog into the pack may take a couple of tries to get used to it (for you and dog), ours was a little apprehensive at first but by the second time on our first hike she knew what it was for and didn’t hesitate.
The pack itself is well constructed with high quality materials, mesh side panels allowing air flow so pooch doesn’t get too hot, clips with fully adjustable straps, sternum strap, adjustable well padded shoulder straps, plenty of safety features, padded back panel and many more features. On the downside it could do with a light frame or solid back panel and waist strap for improved support of shoulders and spine as once the dog is being carried the pack is pulled back (because gravity) which, after a while, can leave shoulders a little sore.
Overall however, this is an excellent backpack that will let you bring your best friend along for the day and I would certainly recommend it.
