Kelty Domolite 6

rated 4.0 of 5 stars

The Domolite 6 has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best three-season tents for 2025.

Bought this tent primarily for car camping, but it comes with a lot of great backpacking tent features such as full-coverage fly and good expedition design (low profile, 3 pole construction, continuous pole sleeves). The box stated the tent height to be 74", but the actual interior height was about 67", so I could not fully stand (I am 5' 10").

Still it has a lot of headroom and interior space is very good. However, it has one fatal flaw--the grommets into which the 11 mm dia. poles tips insert are the same size as those in the smaller tents which use 9mm poles. This resulted in excessive pressure on the undersized grommet, causing it to pop off during disassembly.

I returned the tent and purchased another identical model but it had the same problem. I therefore cannot recommend the Domolite 6. The Domolite 4 does not suffer from this problem since it has the smaller diameter poles.

Given the Domolite's bombproof construction and design I would definitely recommend the Domolite 4 as a better family camping tent. I have read many glowing reviews of this tent, and in fact I think I'll exchange my 6 for the 4.

Recently used this tent on a 50-mile kayaking trip into Algonquin Park. There were five of us and we wanted to keep the weight down. The tent was a joy to use. While out we encountered a couple of days of very poor weather (high winds and rain) but the Kelty afforded us all the opportunity to enjoy a warm dry area.

I have used this tent on simmilar trips for the last 4 years and highly recommend it. As of this date it shows no excessive wear.
