Kelty Mantra 2

rated 4.0 of 5 stars

The Mantra 2 has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best three-season tents for 2024.

I bought this tent back around 2000. I've used it a few times, mostly during spring or summer. I can't imagine having two people in the tent together, but I like to have space for gear, etc.

It goes up very easily, with hooks and clips, with the color coded fabric on the hooks. It holds up pretty well, I just had to replace the shock cord, but now it's good as new. You might want to have extra stakes, because I had some trouble with them bending on me.

The tent is nice and airy, but quite stuffy with the rainfly. I does hold up pretty well in rain and has some space in front of the door to put gear under the rainfly. The little netting "shelf" included is very handy at night.

I bought the fabric mat that goes under the tent to protect it also.

Design: three-season freestanding

Ease of Setup: pretty easily
Price Paid: around $150?

Great tent for two traveling light. Set-up is super easy with only three poles and color-coded clips. Weather-proof in all conditions and super stable in windy areas with plenty of stake loops.

I've been using this tent 6+ times a year since I got it as a gift in 99 and I only just developed my first leak (in a torrential thunderstorm) this past weekend 5/2010. I'm in the process of re-waterproofing, and I expect many more years out of this tent.

Design: hree-season freestanding dome
Sleeps: 2
Ease of Setup: super stupid simple
Weight: light to very light
Price Paid: gift

I was not impressed with this tent. I am 6'6" and my wife is 5'4" and this tent seems very claustrophobic. The steep walls leave you feeling like you are breathing nylon all night and the minimal space between the rainfly and interior walls allow condensation to wick through onto you.

Design: three season
Sleeps: 2
Ease of Setup: eazy
Weight: 6+ lbs.
Price Paid: $160

I'm in HK and bought this tent 1 year ago. I'd used this tent for three times and found it really rigid in all conditions. It's weather-proof. I rate it as 3.5 season.

Sleeps: 2
Ease of Setup: Very easy
Price Paid: HK$ 1,000
