Kelty Red Cloud 5500

rated 3.0 of 5 stars

The Red Cloud 5500 has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best expedition packs for 2024.

Done some day hikes with this pack. Will eventually do longer and heavier hikes. Handled 20 to 30 pounds well.

To shrink the pack, mate the lid clip to the sleeping bag compartment compression clip and the pack compresses vertically automatically. Also, place the loadlifter strap to the bottom rung.

This review is for the old Redcloud 5500 (maybe 5 to 7 year old model).

I had my Red Cloud for about three years when it gave out on me. The fabric at the bottom end of the stay ripped out and let one of the stays fall out of the pack. Also, whenever I carried heavy loads in the rain the velcro tab that keeps the stays in at the top would break loose. Save your money and get a better pack if you plan on a lot of use.
