A ightweight and compact liner that improves insulation and protects the inside of a sleeping bag. Can also be used on its own for really hot muggy nights.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Compact
  • Comfortable
  • Cost

Cons

  • Snags easily
  • Not for vegans (boiled silk worms etc)

I always use a liner as part of my layered sleep system. Foremost, it gives the inside of the bag a degree of protection, especially on longer walks where access to washing facilities is limited. Additionally, it actually does improve the insulating properties of a sleeping bag by a couple of degrees —I really notice the difference with and without, so it is a cheap and effective way to get the best out of your sleeping bag. Equally, in really warm and muggy nights I just sleep in the liner which I find very comfortable.

It is mummy shaped to fit the inside of a bag neatly. The liner comes with an extended hood which I like to pull over my face on colder nights without restricting air flow. I prefer this to wearing a hat. A stuff sack is provided but is quite small and a tight fit, so I prefer to I stuff the liner with my sleeping bag when I am on the trail.

There is no zip, so there is extra faf when getting in and out. It takes a while to get all the layers adjusted and I do find I get twisted up during the night as I am a fidgety sleeper. I have learned the value of carrying a "pee bottle" as the faf is too much hassle in the middle of the night. I have also found that as the material is so thin that it is prone to snagging and the material is becoming quite bare in places.

In summary, this is a really useful addition to any sleep system. It is a barely noticeable addition to my kit and its versatility as an insulator or light cover for those warm and muggy nights make it an excellent purchase. It will not be for everyone as it is made from silk and we all know how that is made.
