LoveBeams Headlamp

When LoveBeams released their first headlamp, I was excited to get the opportunity to test it out. This little package can be used in a variety of environments to light the way. But it’s built with customizable features, which means you can make it look like it was made specifically for you.

Headlamp Features

With a one-size-fits-all headband, it’s easy to adjust the size of this headlamp to fit anyone. The battery indicator lets you know how long you have before your next charge, and the multiple light settings allow you to customize your lighting experience no matter where you are.

This headlamp is also water resistant, which means it’ll withstand small amounts of moisture outdoors. But it shouldn’t be submerged in liquid at any time. This product has two buttons: a power button and a mode button. The mode button allows you to shift between low brightness, high brightness, color mode, and dim.

While you’re looking down, this headlamp will operate with optimal brightness. But when you look up, it dims to prevent you from blinding your friends. Only the bottom orientation features the social mode, so it’s entirely possible to operate this headlamp without the dimming feature.

Customizable Features

The LoveBeams headlamp comes with several customizable features. You can unlock this headlamp in order to give you full control over which features you can use. Not only can you customize for the angle of your head, you can also customize the color and the saturation of that color.

LoveBeams Battery Life

I generally received about 4 hours of light from the LoveBeams headlamp. If you were to place it on a lower setting or conserve your battery, I’m sure that you’d be able to stretch the time out more extensively, but this was generally about the limit that I encountered.

Headlamp Cost

The LoveBeams Headlamp costs $59, which isn’t a horrible price for a headlamp that you’ll be able to recharge. Competitive rechargeable headlamps cost anywhere from $40 to $100, and their battery life is about the same as this device. However, I have yet to encounter another headlamp that comes equipped with updatable firmware, which sets this product apart. And the customizable features make it tough to forget.

LoveBeams Firmware

While I love the idea of being able to update your headlamp as technology progresses, I found that this brand’s firmware wasn’t always readily available to me. I was never quite able to determine if it’s because of the device on which I was working, or if I needed some kind of app to open the files, but I wasn’t able to download the firmware successfully.

Testing Conditions

I had the chance to test this headlamp in a variety of conditions. Most of the time I spent with this headlamp was in North Carolina’s Appalachian Mountains. But I also travelled to Oregon, Colorado, and California with this product. Generally, my setup was a casual camping setup.

I had conflicting feelings about the “don’t blind your friends” feature on this headlamp, because it often engages when you don’t intend for it to engage. But once you’re mindful of this particular feature it’s easy to shift your needs (or the setting on your headlamp) for a smoother experience.

I love having a rechargeable headlamp like the LoveBeams because you don’t constantly have to worry about the status of your batteries. Instead, you can look at the battery indicator on the side of this headlamp to see how long you have to go.

The color choices are also incredibly fun, but they can take a few tries to manipulate.

Another great feature about this particular headlamp is that the brand is dedicated to offset 10x the average carbon footprint, so you can feel good about this purchase.

Background

I've used dozens of headlamps over the years. This is my second rechargeable headlamp, and I've never experienced a product with so much variety before. I tested this product over the course of about a year and I was impressed during every step of my journey.
