Marmot Peapod

rated 5.0 of 5 stars

The Peapod has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best three-season tents for 2024.

To me this is the ideal roomy, 2-person, strong, reliable, '3-1/2' season tent. This tent is really easy to set up: I bought it while on vacation in Colorado, didn't get a chance to practice setting it up, and had to use it that night but was able to easily figure out how from the manual and was able to set it up in about 5 min. right at the campsite, in almost-dark conditions!

It is strong enough to handle pretty good wind gusts, and from my experience is quite waterproof; pretty roomy at 40 sq ft but not very heavy at only 6 lbs. Also, quite a bit of the ceiling is mesh so you get great views at night and good ventilation. I had looked at similar offerings from other companies, but they either weighed too much, didn't offer the views, or I didn't feel they could handle some mountain weather extremes. The Peapod offers good balance across all of these factors.

There are a lot of good tents out there -- but be sure you check this one out. It's no fluke that Backpacker Mag gave Marmot awards for this tent. I like this one so much I plan to get the Marmot Nutshell(4-1/2 lb., 32 sq. ft) as a 2nd tent to use for solo backpacking.

This is a great tent. It has plenty of room for two. Very sturdy in the wind and rain. There is enough room inside to store your gear. I recommend this tent for tall people who also want room inside to stretch. The tent sets up easy and takes down just as easy. The taco sack it comes in is terrific. A good tent if you want lots of room.

What a wonderful tent. Provides great views of the night sky in warm weather, and plenty of room for 2 and all your gear. Packs up light and small. Never gotten wet despite some pretty nasty rain. 3 pole design even hold up to wet Eastern snow pretty well. Good quality and no problems yet.
