Modan is no longer in business, and the Pioneer QAA has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best expedition packs for 2024.

What can I say? This is the sixth expensive, technical, "promise you the world" fancy shmancy pack that I have bought in this decade. The only thing that makes this pack different is...EVERYTHING! This pack is as comfortable for me with over 100 lbs of gear than any of my other packs were with half that weight. It's built like a bomb shelter (1000 denier Cordura fabric and ITW Nexus fasteners throughout) and sooo well thought out that everyone who was with me was totally envious. I did my preliminary adjustments before we started out on a major excursion and did not even once feel the need to completely "overhaul" my pack every half hour like everybody else did. That QAA (quick adjustment system) allowed me to relieve pressure either subtly or dramaticaly from my hips to my shoulders with little more that a tug on the hip mounted adjustment cords. The Gyro Joint (not a Greek fast food place) allowed me to tune the amount of hip movement to the different types of terrain we experienced as well as helping to compensate for my load getting ever lighter as the days passed on.

In addition to all of this the pack is equally well suited to every body type except two, very tall and narrow shouldered and very short and broad shouldered. My wife liked the fit of my pack so much that she now has a 85 liter version called a Yeti (she will probably want to write her own review in the future).Overall I would have to say that this is the best pack in the world PERIOD.Unfortunately there is no longer a US distributor for MODAN so you will have to order one from overseas if you want one but it is well worth the extra trouble and expense.
