Summary
A very nice lightweight fleece garment.
Pros
- Lightweight
- Breathable
- Dries quickly
I'm a big fan of lightweight fleece garments. They breathe well, are warm (even damp), dry quickly (can be wrung out if necessary), and are relatively inexpensive. When I'm on the move and need a mid-layer to warm up, it's extremely tough to beat a lightweight fleece—especially in damp conditions.
The Montbell Chameece Jacket is one of the lightest fleece jackets I've found—8.6 oz in Men's Large. Full zip w/ one zipped upper chest pocket. You can save a little weight with a pullover, but the ease of a full zip makes it worth the extra half ounce.
The Chameece fabric has a nice, soft napped hand. The fit is athletic, but not overly so. It's relatively thin so it layers nicely under a windshirt or hardshell.
They list the fabric weight as 5.4 oz/square yard, which I think is pretty close (probably a hair lighter) to the "traditional" 100 weight fabrics.
The Chameece Jacket has found a permanent home in my clothing system—summer through winter.
Fleece isn't really exciting cutting edge technology, but it works and works well, really well :)

Thanks for the review, bigskyrunner. What's the comfortable temp range/activity for this fleece for you?

over a light base layer and under a light shell, while on the move, I've used successfully from 15-40-ish; static, probably down to 40-50-ish
