The first pair I got by accident many years ago. They were a return in the bargain bin for $20. Look similar to these but not 1 piece leather. Soles are a molded on Vibram like these. Was not doing a lot of hiking back then so I rotated them out with my White construction boots at work. By the time I realized what a good trail boot they were I had worn the soles down quite a bit.

Got a new pair 2 years ago and still going strong. Use them for long day hikes and overnight back pack trips. Feet never get wet.

It gets a 4.5 because trail debris (pine needles etc) has worked its way in a couple of times when wearing shorts. Maybe this is common, not a big problem. A bit stiff in the foot and medium ankle support which is comfortable to me on the trails. Soles are good in mud, a little slippery on green rocks.

Use: day hikes overnights winter wear during wet weather
Break-in Period: a couple of hours
Price Paid: $75

I have had these Montrail boots for years and they are perfect. They are so comfortable and they are VERY durable. I have worn them while crossing mountain streams and I have worn them while hiking to the summits of 14ers in Colorado. These boots are great and they never make my feet sore. They have great support in them as well. Unfortunately, Montrail does not make this boot anymore. If I could find them somewhere, I would buy another pair!
