Only complaint is that I am an athletic, self conscious 5'10" and the shirt seems a tad short, but don't worry about it showing my torso in normal use only when putting a pack on or reaching up.
My favorite detail is the rubber buttons throughout. I have busted way to many plastic buttons on similar shirts to appreciate something that won't bust from cold or pressure.
I used to wear Ex Officio shirts and each have their positives. I'd like the Canyons pockets to be a laid out a bit differently but appreciate that and the air flow areas are mostly hidden except for close scrutiny.
Living in the SW, it's definitely made for hot weather climes.
I paid full retail for this shirt (had a GC) and have used it primarily for day hikes and trekking around in warm/hot southern Arizona weather. The shirt is very breathable and dries very quickly. There are plenty of mesh panels and breathable flaps which help to cool you down when you work up a sweat. I wore a backpack with the hip straps for a few days and have noticed some pilling where the straps rubbed. One feature I like is the sleeve rollup straps. If you choose to roll up the sleeves there is a strap on the inside of the sleeve that attaches to a button on the outside upper arm to keep them from unrolling/drooping down.
All in all I like this shirt and would buy one again, but not for $65. I think you are paying for the MH brand most of all. It's a good shirt if you can find it on clearance or sale.

Tough, durable, cool shade. The best summer hiking and work wear I have found.
- Cool breeze
- Not for winter
- Buttons rather than better snaps
I'm a landscaper in hot Tucson where 1/4 second of shade from a flying by airplane is helpful. Dealing with desert heat and plants takes toughness as so many plants have thorns and needles. Yet this is the coolest wearing shady shirt I've ever found.
Had these over 10 years, yet they do not show any wear and I wear them often. Still don't have a tear in either, an amazing feat in the desert.

Great use of mesh venting, easy roll up sleeves that can be buttoned down, and a quick drying fabric combine for an ideal hiking shirt for 3 seasons. The shirt is well designed, functions fantastically, and on top of that looks great.
- Fast dry
- Stay cool with mesh venting
- Good looks
- Good value
- Buttons to hold rolled-up sleeves
- Potential longer term durability of mesh vents
The Mountain Hardwear Canyon long sleeve shirt has excellent fit, true to size (at 5 10 and a half, and 200 lbs, a size large fits perfectly without being tight or restricting of motion), very comfortable. There are no points of abrasion/chaffing anywhere along the inner seams.
The construction appears solid, and the design is nice. The mesh venting is well placed without being at all obvious until you begin to inspect the shirt, and it works well for keeping you cool during hot days or high exertion. The fabric is thin, but appears durable and most importantly it wicks moisture away and dries quickly. Being a shirt, ventilation is quite easy to manage by simply unbuttoning, and the roll-up sleeves that can be held up by buttons on the upper arm are a nice touch adding more versatility. The fit is comfortable, not too loose and not too tight making it suitable to layer on top of easily, or wearing another baselayer underneath for when it gets colder.
So far it appears to be wearing well, and there are no signs of rash/abrasion from backpacks and the fabric has dealt well with multiple washes. The only potential long-term weakness may be the durability of the mesh, but that remains to be seen as it appears to be wearing well so far.
This shirt has been used in spring/summer so far in the UK for day hikes (both short and long) and has performed very well with the constantly changing UK weather. These often end up on sale and for the $30-$40 they are often sold for, they represent an excellent value. I would definitely recommend this shirt, and would certainly buy it again.
