Mountain Hardwear Plasmic Parka

rated 3.0 of 5 stars
photo: Mountain Hardwear Plasmic Parka waterproof jacket

Good for downpour, as in the "500 year" flood in Lyons, Colorado. Kept me dry while my Gore-Tex jackets leaked. Cut a bit small, which makes it difficult to layer. Wish there was a heavier duty version with pit zips. Would recommend it as a rain shell, for lightweight, not backcountry use.

Pros

  • Long length
  • Waterproof in a downpour, not Gore-tex, ie, "leaktex"
  • Double zipper

Cons

  • Too lightweight, not durable fabric
  • No pit zips
  • Tends to fit tightly, not easy to layer, especially in chest area for women
