Great tent for the price. Could use some minor design changes.

Pros

  • Keeps you off the ground while camping
  • Inexpensive compared to rooftop/bedrack type tents
  • Can stand up inside.

Cons

  • Rain fly blocks ventilation and doesn’t completely wrap over the end poles
  • Only one interior pocket

This tent is great if you’re into “car” camping and want to be off the ground but don’t want to drop the cash on a roof top tent. You also don’t have to worry about climbing a ladder to get in and out, unless your truck has a huge lift or a high bed. I have a Tacoma and use our camping cooler as a step to make it easier getting in and out. There are a lot of poles for setup but after a few times it goes fairly quick with two people but, I’ve never tried it alone.

With the understanding that this tent is made to fit many different models of pickup, it fits in the bed very well and once you get used to strapping it down in all the right spots, it’s very secure. There’s plenty of room to stand up and lots of ventilation provided by some well designed mesh windows that also completely close.

Adding the rainfly completely blocks the side windows, and if it actually rains, the cab side window needs to be closed because it is not covered by the rainfly. It also does not completely wrap around the and poles. I could get it over the front or back but not both. The result of not covering the cab window resulted in getting water in the bed. If you’re on a thick air mattress, no worries but if you’re on a thin sleeping pad, it’s going to get wet. That being said, if you have done enough camping you know everything gets wet eventually.

The awning over the door is my favorite feature. It’s easy to set up and adjust and provides lots of coverage and is great for keeping out the sun and rain. There is a lantern hook on the top of the tent which is handy but the storage net that clips on around it was pretty useless, everything I put in it fall out. There was also only a storage pocket on one side. Somewhere to put more smalls would be really nice.

Background

Used this tent for 8 days of camping. It’s larger and heavier than my other tents but those are for strictly backpacking. I have used it in heavy rain and windy conditions with temps ranging from 58-80F.
