Pearl Izumi Pursuit Long Sleeve
The Pursuit shirt is a featherweight top that feels like a second skin. The shirt is treated with Icefil, a transfer dry fabric that pulls moisture from the skin through the fabric which, in turn, cools the skin. The Polyester/Spandex fabric also provides SPF 50 sun protection.
Pros
- Super fly-weight
- Icefil cooling technology
- Excellent fit
Cons
- None
I tested the Pearl Izumi Pursuit long sleeve top over several months. Most of the testing was done at my local fitness center with additional use out on the trail. The Pursuit top would be considered semi-form fitting in that it is not skin tight but close to it. This was a plus when getting the top on and off. The top’s stretchy material allowed for ease of movement during a variety of activities.
“Fly-weight” would be my word for the Pursuit top, as it weighs in at just 5 ½ ounces. The fit was correct for size medium and the main body of the shirt runs long which allowed me to stay covered whether walking, running or hunched over on a bike. The sleeve length is nice and long, allowing me to utilize the mitten sleeves while still providing for full arm movement.
During biking, power walks or long treadmill sessions, the Icefil-treated fabric did its job of pulling the moisture off the body. The sensation of cooling is readily apparent when this occurs and not having a soaking wet top during exercise is a plus. The underarm ventilation worked well with the mesh running from near the elbow to the bottom of the rib cage.
While didn’t do any night testing of the reflective stitching and logo, I did confirm they reflected well in a dark room. I like this top a lot, it’s great for training and would also be a suitable long sleeve backpacking shirt.
