Sierra Designs Cornice Jacket

rated 5.0 of 5 stars

The Cornice Jacket has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best waterproof jackets for 2024.

Retail on this jacket was $289.99. I got it from Sierra Trading Post for $99.99, minus $10.00 for ordering online (or some such further discount thingie).

I've taken it skiing and it was great. It was much better than my previous jacket (a Nike) and it performed superbly in very variable conditions: sun to fog to light snow to heavy snow and powerful wind; all the while keeping me temperate inside the jacket. I lay in the snow waiting on my wife to come down the mountain: no problem. I did a face-plant in thick and fluffy snow: no problem. No sweat -- literally, even while powering myself up hill on skis and also when I got into trouble on a Black run.

The pockets are handy. The hood is a work of genius. The zippers work well and the zipper covers kept snow and water out. It's light and it does the job I ask it to do very well. It looks like it will be rugged and last a good long time.
