Tent is well constructed with lots of vents and doors. Great vestibule for cold weather entrance and gear storage. Easy to set up with color-coded poles. Four-person is large and you are able to stand up in it. Tent is great for base camp or car camping with two adults and one or two small children.

I would recommend it, however it does not come with footprint and North Face does not support this tent as it recommends you use a footprint but does not carry them. Since tent is odd shape, even aftermarket footprints are hard to find. That is why the 4 stars.

Pros

  • Great tent with every feature you would need for either hot or cold weather camping with family or used as base camp tent.

Cons

  • North Face recommends the use of a footprint on all their tents. This one does not come with one and North Face no longer carries them. Even though my tent was purchased new, I could not purchase a footprint from NF

The setup of the North Face Northstar 4 tent is easy with color-coded poles. The fly is easy to put on for someone who is 5'6" or taller. The tent does not come with a footprint and NF no longer supports this tent, so even though tent was purchased new, I could not get one from NF. Stakes are ok but could be a bit better.

Tent is stable in high winds when guylines are staked. Have no experience with tent in rain and snow.

Tent is extremely well vented.

The tent has plenty room for 2 adults and a couple of small children. Lots of pockets, windows and doors.

The tent goes right back into its carrying case with no trouble. Case is plenty big.

This tent is very easy to use and once you use the color-coded poles, it goes up in a snap.

The construction of the tent seems to be very durable and probably will hold up for 10 years or more.

I have had this tent for six years and 10 outings and have had no problems with it.

Background

I have used tent maybe 10 times beach and alpine camping. I have owned the tent for 6 years.
