The North Face Soloist Jacket

rated 4.5 of 5 stars

The Soloist Jacket has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best fleece jackets for 2024.

WOW!! This is the only double-sided windproof fleece I've seen. The sleeves are not, but they zip off, and now you have a vest. A windproof hood tucks into the collar, that makes it sort of bulky and stiff, but it's good to have if you need it. This jacket is warmer than my Sierra Designs windstopper jacket. In combination the two jackets allow great warmth and plenty of ventilation. Has anyone seen or bought this jacket? What do you think of it?

This jacket rocks! From 120 mph wind gusts, to fierce mid-winter snowstorms, this jacket has always come out looking like new. Only downfall of the jacket is the price tag of around $295, but if you can find it for around $200 (as I did) this is a great fleece shell that I'd recommend to anyone w/o hesitation. (Love the removable sleeve option where they simply stow in the rear pocket - great versatility on those spring days when the temp starts to rise.)

Fabric: Gore Windstopper
Price Paid: $295

This jacket is awsome, construction is top notch. Detachable sleeves are very convenient and nice, but slightly tedious to put back on. Pocket placement is ample and well thought out, i especially like the large back pocket for stashing the sleeves; also an excellent place to shove energy foods while mountain biking. I plan on living in this thing for the next 6 months, whether skiing, biking, hiking, or mountaineering.
