As a lifelong user and fan, I will no longer buy any of the Therm-a-Rest products or those of its parent Cascade Designs.

  • Good product

  • Terrible customer care

As a lifelong user and fan, I will no longer buy any of the Therm-a-rest products or those of its parent Cascade Designs. Why? They used to stand behind their goods and when one of their top-end pads ($130 in 2018) needed a replacement filler, they simply said we no longer carry that.

Well, when you sell many thousands of a product, you would expect some better consideration of the life of a product for their value customers. As a Scout Leader, you can bet I will recommend a different product.

Dani, what TAR pad failed on you (so we can put your review under the correct product info)? Do you have any pictures of it you can share in your review? Also, I've generally heard good things about MSR's customer service. Did they offer you any options for repairing or replacing your pad? Good luck!

Hi Alicia, the Therm-a-Rest pads are several Mondo King 3D. The valves are not at all easy to fill up or deflate because of their size (about 4" thick) with several of the pumps we have purchased. Their new micro pump valves do not fit. By discontinuing any of the products or adapters that can fill these, they have made the pads obsolete even though they are perfectly fine otherwise. Who wants to buy expensive pads every couple of years? Their customer service ethos is not manifest in what they actually do - even though they did suggest we scour the web for resellers who have leftover stock (none left - so that did not help) .

Thanks for clarifying which pad you had issues with, Dani. Sounds frustrating. You'll see that your review is now under the MondoKing 3D.

Great comfy product. Lots of space, feels like home. A bit heavy for backpacking, but then that’s not what it’s for.

I have the Mondoking 3D xxl size—it’s wide and comfortable. It’s like having my bed from home in my tent. Easy to set up and take down. And what a sleep! Keeps the ground cold away too!

I slept once on my Mondoking! Like a baby. It’s great for car camping and anything, but don’t try to carry it on a trail—it’s not made for that. Just bought last year’s model on sale.
