As a lifelong user and fan, I will no longer buy any of the Therm-a-Rest products or those of its parent Cascade Designs.

Pros

  • Good product

Cons

  • Terrible customer care

As a lifelong user and fan, I will no longer buy any of the Therm-a-rest products or those of its parent Cascade Designs. Why? They used to stand behind their goods and when one of their top-end pads ($130 in 2018) needed a replacement filler, they simply said we no longer carry that.

Well, when you sell many thousands of a product, you would expect some better consideration of the life of a product for their value customers. As a Scout Leader, you can bet I will recommend a different product.

Best pad for car camping

Pros

  • Super comfy
  • High R value
  • Easy setup

Cons

  • Bulky
  • Heavy
  • Expensive but worth it

I'm not a young chickadee anymore. I bought this pad and I spend a lot of time camping with my son's Boy Scout Troop. My regular Therm-a-Rest from 1998 wasn't exactly doing the job.

This bad boy is big and bulky but feels like your mattress at home. I don't even need a cot. I live in Upstate New York and as added plus this pad is extremely warm and insulating.

Background

20 nights on the pad.

Great comfy product. Lots of space, feels like home. A bit heavy for backpacking, but then that’s not what it’s for.

Pros

  • Comfort
  • Spacious
  • Soft
  • Warmth

Cons

  • Heavy

I have the Mondoking 3D xxl size—it’s wide and comfortable. It’s like having my bed from home in my tent. Easy to set up and take down. And what a sleep! Keeps the ground cold away too!

Background

I slept once on my Mondoking! Like a baby. It’s great for car camping and anything, but don’t try to carry it on a trail—it’s not made for that. Just bought last year’s model on sale.
