Topo Athletic Atmos

Topo's first maximum cushion shoe.
Pros
- cushioning
- huge toe box
- fit
Cons
- no rebound
I need an EE forefoot and a C heel, so my go-to shoes are typically Oboz wide and ASICS wide. Specifically, for running I go with ASICS Nimbus or Gel Kayano because they both come in good sizing for me (12 wide). Saw the Atmos on sale and went for it, because all Topo shoes have a big toe box (similar to most of Altra) and it is max cushion.
The toe box on the Atmos is huge, which I find perfect. The heel fits me just fine so the standard Topo size 12 seems like a good fit for me. The cushioning is very soft, and is softer in the toe than my Nimbus and maybe softer in the toe than the Gel Kayano but pretty close. In the heel the Nimbus, Kayano and Atmos are tied.
HOWEVER the Atmos has no perceptible rebound which gives me a sensation very similar to running in sand. This does not affect my running times much, however my heart rate is a bit higher by 5 beats per minute. FYI, my fastest times are always in the Nimbus. I think since the Atmos is lighter than the Nimbus despite the lack of rebound the lightness almost makes up for it.
Both the Nimbus and the Atmos are faster than the Gel Kayano.
