I took a chance with purchasing these online. I've been well pleased with them so far. I day hike with these in the Smokey Mountains and average 4 to 5 mile hikes round trip. The shoes are very comfortable out of the box and the soles are flexible. I've had no problems with the soles going over sharp rocks. I must say that I've not submerged them in water; however, I have crossed a few small creeks above the sole with no water penetration. I did hike to the top of Mount LeCounte not long ago and had no major problems. I did feel my feet moving in the boot slightly as I was ending the trail which caused me to become concerned with a blister, but it didn't happen.

One side note: I asked the USA manufacturer if I could purchase some extra shoe strings. They told me they had to come from Italy. I replied that it would not be worth the cost to have shoe strings sent from Italy. The representative told me not to worry about it. A few weeks later I received a letter signed by the owner of the corporation with some shoe strings.
