"To the Arctic" with Photographer Florian Schulz

January 20, 2012

Day Two of Outdoor Retailer always begins with a breakfast talk by The Conservation Alliance.

Today's presenter is award-winning conservation photographer Florian Schulz, who spent many months in the Arctic — spring, summer, fall, and winter — to photograph the remote landscape and diverse wildlife. Schulz immerses himself in an environment for several weeks at a time, studying wildlife behavior and interaction, and is understandably an advocate for the preservation of wild habitat.

Today he's expected to present stories and images from his new book To the Arctic, a look at the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and companion piece to his IMAX film To The Arctic 3D, to be released in 2012.

Here's a trailer for To the Arctic:

Schulz created the following, Visions of the Arctic, with Earthjustice and Patagonia as a visual campaign to prevent offshore oil development.

The Conservation Alliance engages outdoor businesses — like Trailspace — to fund, through grants, community-based conservation projects that help protect wild places for their habitat and recreation values.
