Black Diamond Hot Forge Hybrid Hoody

rated 5 of 5 stars
photo: Black Diamond Hot Forge Hybrid Hoody down insulated jacket

Outstanding lightweight, comfortable, and versatile jacket, copes with a range of weather conditions and still performs when damp. High quality materials and workmanship.

Pros

  • Exceptional versatility
  • Lightweight, excellent warmth-per-weight
  • Very comfortable and well designed
  • High quality materials and workmanship

Cons

  • Lightweight materials mean tradeoff with abrasion resistance

Great fit, very comfortable with soft material around the neck. Best to get a size larger than normal though, which helps with layering. Hood can go under a helmet, but despite that is not bulky without one and tightens down efficiently to a snug fit.

Can serve really well as an outer layer in moderately cool conditions and a mid layer in really cold conditions. Copes well with showers and stays comfortable when damp. Had it under a rain shell in hard blown rain from the side and my other layers around my neck got uncomfortably damp and cold but not the Hot Forge Hybrid Hoody.

Really good balance between breathability and warmth.

Impressive performance from a lightweight garment, but the tradeoff is that the lightweight fabrics can't be expected to handle bush bashing, but are strong enough to handle abrasion from most use outdoor and bushwalking situations.

Good range of colours and looks stylish.

Have had mine for about eight months and worn in range of conditions in the Tasmanian highlands and been really pleased with it. Highly recommended.
