Chicken Tramper Water Bottle Sleeve

rated 5.0 of 5 stars
photo: Chicken Tramper Water Bottle Sleeve pack pocket

Thoughtfully designed water bottle sleeves that easily attach to most pack shoulder straps, with five sizes to fit almost any 1-liter or smaller bottle.

Pros

  • More than one size to fit a multitude of bottles
  • Quick attachment/detachment clips
  • Vertical adjustment so it can ride "high" or "low" on the shoulder strap
  • Made from sturdy, non-stretch mesh

Cons

  • Haven't found one yet

Easy access to a sip, or a gulp, is a high priority for me, and I have no use for bladders with hoses, so water bottles it shall be. The "easy access" bit has been challenging over the years with many packs so I've appreciated my Osprey Exos 48 and REI Flash 55 for water bottle pockets with fairly easy access. However, I use other packs as well with side pockets that require double jointed elbows to retrieve bottles, and even more so to put them back in.

Shoulder strap pockets have been around for a while but it seems most only accommodate small, skinny, 500 ml bottles. Chicken Tramper has more than solved that issue. They make 5 varying sizes of mesh sleeves to accommodate almost any size bottle I'll ever come across. The width range is 3.1" - 4", and the height 7.7" - 10.7".

A " Refill Tall" size sleeve on the left, and a "Wide" size on the right.

I dislike the small mouth openings on "Smart" bottles, but I like the mouth size on Powerade and Body Armor bottles. The "wide" sleeve accommodates 28oz Powerade and Gatorade bottles. Actually, the "wide" will accommodate almost any bottle. The "Refill Tall" accommodates the 1L Body Armor and CNOC bottles. The "Tall" only accommodates "Smart" sized bottles.

Two other features that stand these apart from all the others is the attachment system, and ability to adjust the height position on the shoulder strap. The sleeve DOES NOT rely on a simple band of elastic through which one must first disconnect the adjustment webbing from the bottom of the shoulder strap, thread the shoulder strap through the elastic band, and then reconnect the adjustment webbing to the shoulder strap. It utilizes an upper and lower attachment clamp (it has a technical name which escapes me) which is easy peezy to clip on or clip off if moving it to a different pack.

The attachment clips can attach to most anything on a shoulder strap—the O ring in this case.

The second clever feature is adjustable webbing between the two clips which allows the sleeve to hang low or hang high on the shoulder strap.

The webbing can also adjust to cinch up any slack so the sleeve doesn't slide up or down.

Shoulder straps with integrated daisy chains are the easiest to perfectly attach a sleeve, but most shoulder straps have some bit of fabric or hardware that can accommodate the clips.

As long as I'm at it, I might as well show Chicken Tramper's "phone pocket" and "zipper pocket". They utilize all of the same attachment features but are made from X-Pac fabric, with a stretch mesh pouch on the front.

The Zipper Pocket accommodates two pickle balls easily.

I use the Phone Pocket for my prescription sunglasses, and the mesh pouch for my readers.

Both pockets offer 12 color choices, and the Phone Pocket comes in two sizes—mine is  a "standard"
