Mountain Hardwear 3 Person Tent

rated 5.0 of 5 stars

We have a 3 person Mountain Hardwear, 3-season tent, that we got in 2010. It is great. Very comfortable in all kinds of weather, roomy for 2 large people. I recommend it to all my friends.

Tent was comfortable, kept us dry. Nice screen for admiring the night sky, good size pockets for storing flashlights and glasses. Made of very durable, breathable fabric. The sage green is a nice color for the woods.

Pros

  • Breathable fabric, yet kept us dry in the rain. Comfortable size
  • Good in warm and cool weather

Cons

  • Door openings could have been a little larger.

Used 3 times since 2010 in cool and rainy weather, down in the low 40s.  Tent was comfortable with very little condensation. We are large people, 180-240 lbs and find the tent comfortable to sleep in.

It kept the rain water out, while others in our group had water collect in the bottom of their tents. It was a little difficult to get in and out of though.

Nice screen for admiring the night sky. Good size pockets for storing flashlights and glasses. Made of very durable, breathable fabric. The sage green is a nice color for the woods.

I recommend it to all my friends. Great tent!

Source: received it as a personal gift

I have been using this tent for 20 years. It's been in two hurricanes 90 plus winds it has never been treated and has never let one drop of water in.

Pros

  • Great room for two people, three can fit
  • Nice vestibule is enough space for shoes and packs
  • Two overhead pockets and two side pockets
  • Fast and easy to set up with a little practice.

Cons

  • 6.2 pounds a trade for comfort
  • It's purple (Eagle green would have been better)

Setup: Easy

Stability: Great even in 90 plus winds

Weather Resistance: 20+ years has never leaked a drop

Ventilation: Vents real well

Room: Plenty for two people (three would be real tight)

Packability: I use a compression sack (not included). It fits snug in the bottom of my pack and the polls with six stakes go to the side of my pack.

Background

General camping 400 plus miles AT. Backpacking many other trails. Also bike rallies. I have lent it out and kids have used it in backyard too.
