MPowerd Luci Connect

rated 5.0 of 5 stars
photo: MPowerd Luci Connect battery-powered lantern

This latest arrival from MPOWERD is smart, solar, inflatable, waterproof, durable, and you can choose from colors, brightness, and scheduling all off your mobile device!

Pros

  • It's all the smart home lighting you are accustomed to, but portable!

Cons

  • I wish MPOWERD had more smart products on the market! Would be amazing to group lights.

This is a VERY bright light. It allows for the latest IOS and Android devices to control it. The colors appear to be limitless. It is the first remote control light of its kind. It still lives up to the brand's durability and beautiful design.

This is basically a Philips Hue on the run—oh and it's waterproof!

I am an avid fan of this company and its mission! I have a number of their products.

MPowered's Luci Connect is a solar-powered light that features a wide array of colors and settings. If you live in a place where the sun shines regularly, this is an awesome piece of gear to add to your collection.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Collapsible
  • Solar powered
  • Bluetooth compatible
  • Color adjustability
  • Timer

Cons

  • The Bluetooth connection can't always be made.
  • The time estimate is a bit unreliable.

Beginning in 2012, Mpowered started manufacturing solar-powered lights to offer affordable clean energy options to the masses. Mpowered wants to challenge the global population to make less of an impact by using clean energy. So, supporting Mpowered means that you support a company that provides clean energy to developing countries. And the Luci Connect can help you take the first step.

Luci Connect Highlights:

  • Can be charged via the sun or via USB
  • Features a cellphone app
  • Color pallet is adjustable
  • IP67 waterproof rating
  • Operates in temps ranging from 32°F – 113°F
  • Up to 24-hour burn time

Charging the Luci Connect: 2-3 hours via USB, 14 hours via direct sunlight

Brightness: The brightness of the Luci Connect is adjustable via your cellphone app, which is convenient if you're looking to set the mood. The level of brightness also affects the amount of time you'll have before your next charge. I've turned this light all the way up and used it to read. And I've used it as a nightlight on a dimmer setting. The versatility is impressive.

Where to use the Luci Connect: The Luci Connect is ideal in regions that receive a lot of sunlight. I've spent a good amount of time on the East Coast. And while the luscious environments are lovely, it would take quite a lot longer to charge your Luci Connect with Eastern sunlight. Living close to the sun in Colorado makes the environment ideal for solar-powered lights.

Ease of Use: The Luci Connect is an intuitive product. If you're less comfortable with using the cellphone app, there's a button you can use to turn your light on and off or to adjust the colors.

One caveat: Don't charge this light on your car's dashboard. The heat can melt the plastic on your beloved Luci Connect because dashboards can reach very warm temperatures.

In Conclusion: While I love the Luci Connect, I don't necessarily need the Bluetooth capabilities to find Mpowered products valuable. I'm a simple girl and would be happy with a less-complicated product. But the Bluetooth capabilities certainly don't hurt! The Luci Connect is clever in design, affordable in cost, and efficient. I refer to the Luci Connect as my fairy light because it adds a lot to the mood of a room or your campsite.

Overall I'm impressed with the Luci Connect and would absolutely recommend it to someone who's in the market for a sustainable light source.

Background

I've used Luci lights for years, opting to charge them with the sun in Utah's desert and in Colorado's backcountry.
