I never would have guessed a skirt could be warmer than pants, but it is!

Pros

  • Warmth
  • Durable
  • Easy on/off
  • Sides open to vent and fully open to serve as a blanket. Goes over tights, pants, and other clothing easily.

Having evaluated this Skhoop Long Down Skirt in Patagonia, Argentina, I learned this goose down filled skirt is something that will block wind and keep you warmer than pants!

A skirt will trap heat with minimal surface area (one tube) to exchange heat with the cold, whereas pants (two tubes) have more surface area, thus more area for cold to take over. (Ask an engineer versed in thermodynamics.)

I found the long skirt useful as a cover on the bed and legs because it opens up fully. There are zippers on both sides. One side opens partially so you don't overheat and the other side does the same and more... unzips fully. Careful because your cat will claim it.

I also have the Mini skirt version and that was even a bigger surprise because covering just the lower central part of the body can also keep you warm! Both have their place.

Men are using these as well as women because they work. Now fairly popular in Alaska and Sweden where they originate.
