Montera GTX

rated 3 of 5 stars Really well crafted and built to last, but a bit stiff for the trails and scrambling. I was sent the Monterra from AKU for testing in exchange for a review. I chose the AKU Monterra because of the lower profile and no heel. I've worn zero drop shoes or sandals for years now and heels aren't my favorite. They put a slight tilt on my foot that I don't like and the heels also get caught on things when I don't want them to.  The Monterra looked like the perfect boot.  Fit:  When I first tried on… Full review

Tribute Suede GTX

rated 3 of 5 stars I have the suede version. It's an OK boot, no major complaints, just not very thrilling. These are the suede GTX Tributes. I bought these Tributes to temporarily replace my AKU Zeniths, which I love, and need resoling. I like what AKU is trying to do, and would like to give them a few chances. First, the soft suede feels nice around the ankle, and also gives very little stability. I rolled my ankle several times while rockhopping up some talus recently. They also look good in public. The footbed… Full review

Tengu Lite GTX

rated 4.5 of 5 stars It's impressive what you get when science meets exceptional, quality materials. A great trekking boot fit for an adrenaline junkie. I was sent the Tengu for testing from AKU.  When I first put the boot on, it literally slurped my foot into it; it makes an audible sound. The boot has what is called a Goretex sock. It's somewhat like a neoprenish sock that's built right into the boot. It is quite comfortable and form fitting.  I wore the boots to work each day for a week thinking that I'd have to… Full review

Slope GTX

rated 4 of 5 stars Excellently made, good looking boot; perhaps better for people without wide feet! I ended up using these on a five-week trek across the rocky spine of Crete, despite having recently bought a pair of Salomon 4D2's. There were a couple of factors in choosing the Akus: They looked better. This was sort of important for me because I was going to be going in and out of social spaces, family friends' weddings, etc. My pair are a sort of pale sage nubuck with leather heel-pieces They seemed cooler in temp. Alpina Plus GTX

rated 5 of 5 stars Super comfortable, all leather, lightweight, day hikers. Leather lined too! I feel compelled to rebut the previous review which didn't state the age, condition, or any other factors relevant to this boot or his review. First of all, any of the modern EVA midsoled boots are subject to the eventual decomposition of the foam. I learned about this with a lightly worn pair of Lowa Renegades that spontaneously destructed on the trail at 14 years of age. I have not gone out and trashed Lowa for this. It… Full review
