This is one of those rare opportunities that someone like myself can bring an old invention used in the Military for decades and share it with the outdoor camping, hiking, climbing community, most of which will be learning of this amazing invention for the very first time. I expect that this review will be the most popular of all my gear reviews. Not from anything I say...It is just one of those inventions that once you see it you are going to say I have to have it. The P38 can opener is the lightest and smallest, most durable, multi-use can opener of all time. There is no reason why every man, woman, and child should not be wearing this on their keychain or strapped to their backpack around the world. Yeah, it's simply that amazing.

It works...

Maybe four and a half stars. The first pot gripper I owned was basically a bent piece of steel designed to fit only the the cheap department store Taiwan pots it came with.  It was replaced by a solid item of cast aluminum that was rock solid and indestructible. I still have it and it has no brand on it. I believe I got it discontinued somewhere. This MSR pot lifter and several fellow travelers like it came along thereafter. The good news is that it is maybe two or three ounces lighter than the cast alternative.  However, the rivets can come apart and in one case they did.

A compact, lightweight, and inexpensive pocket scale, useful for weighing out ingredients and meals on the fly.

Menu planning for an international backpacking trip presents a special challenge. Unless you are going to fly in with all your food, you’re going to have to buy some or all of it in country. And to be sure you have enough calories and not too much weight, you’re going to need to do some weighing and calculating. Take, for example, our 2014 25-day Two Families on the JMT trip, or the 10-day excursionin the Wind River range that my wife and I did in 2016. In both cases, I built some complex spreadsheets here in Norway, often building meals from lists of raw ingredients and adding up calories to make sure everyone (8 people on the JMT) had enough to eat for stretches as long as 10 days.

One of the most useful items for car camping that I have ever picked up. Gives a nice organized place to hang a lantern, utensils, paper towels, spices, and even a garbage bag, no matter where you are.

I first purchased this item years ago when it was called the Kamp Kadie and sold by Cabela's.  I don't believe they sell it anymore, but I have seen it sell in stores like Wal-Mart as the Camp-Caddy, and on other websites as the Kamp Kadi. As I said in the summary, I believe this has been one of the most useful tools I have used for car camping that I have ever purchased. It comes with several pieces a little over a foot in length.  You will always use at least two pieces.  The main top piece which has hooks for the lantern, paper towels, and utensils.

The UCO Grilliput Grill is perfect for a backpacking setup that is a little cramped for room, but expects the possibility of cooking some fresh caught fish or something of the like. The Grilliput collapses down to nothing and can be kept in a side compartment in a pack or even hung on an exterior pack hook if needed.

The UCO Grilliput is an amazing piece of camping or backpacking "kitchen" hardware. The design is perfect, and so far with the unit I purchased last season I see no faults in the workmanship or ease of use when proper care is taken. The height is perfect for a small wood or alcohol burner and it is very easy to set up and break down. The compactness of the collapsed grill leaves much more room than a camp grate would and can slide into most side pockets of packs. The cleaning notch in the end is perfect for scraping grime and soot from the grill bars.  The Grilliput seems as though it will last for a long time, however, I will be sure to clean every nook and cranny of it (including the threads of the screw in legs and end bars) and if someone...

This is one of the best things that ever came out of the military. The P-38 is too small for large hands though.

For my hands the P-38 is too small. I actually use the P-51. It was designed for large #10 size cans in a field kitchen. That said, it weighs a few ounces more than the P-38, but is much easier to handle. It’s just as sharp, still fits the key chain.  For those who don’t want it to open in their pocket you can use a center punch and hammer and peen the hoop that holds the blade. It keeps it from opening in your pocket as well as keeps it open while in use. I have these things in my hunting, hiking, mtn biking packs, go bags, and glove boxes in my vehicles.  They both have so many more uses than just a can opener.

Coleman camp stove toaster. Compact and user friendly. The design will toast up to 4 pieces of bread at a time. Just place on your camp stove or grill, add bread and enjoy warm toast with some tea.

THIS IS A REVIEW FOR THE COLEMAN CAMP STOVE TOASTER.I bought this new @ Walmart for a recent camp trip and actually was pretty fleased with the performance. At the price it is a keeper. I removed this product from the box and it made me wonder what kind of cheap metal it was made from? It is steel with chrome-plated finish. Weight 5.oz and 8 3/4" diameter. It can easily fit into a backpack, carry bag or junk drawer. Made in China. This product easily unfolds and fits easily on a Coleman Camp Stove.

Best P-38 for keychain, carabiner, or pocket due to blade lock. If packed tight in a container, blade lock is unnecessary.

The most common P-38 can openers have about a 50% defect rate. The corner by the hole isn't rounded enough and it digs into your hand. You can easily see this in photos that show a bunch of them together.  Another manufacturer leaves a pointy piece of metal by the hole in EVERY P-38 I checked (many) and opening the blade the first time by hand is pretty much impossible. Major quality control problems. The ones with the blade lock don't have these problems. Hopefully there won't be knockoffs that reintroduce those problems.
