Trail Designs Kojin Stove

rated 4.5 of 5 stars An excellent alcohol stove and my current favorite paired with my Trail Designs Sidewinder Ti-Tri system. The Kojin is sturdy, heats quickly, fuel efficient, and not easy to spill. It heats much faster than any other alcohol stove I have used, and is more fuel efficient than my other options except one. The Kojin may not perform the same on non-Trail Design systems, is slightly less fuel efficient than the Modified Zelph Starlyte, and can spill if filled too quickly. I highly recommend the Kojin… Full review

Coleman Peak 1 Stove

rated 4.5 of 5 stars I love my Peak 1 stove! I have two Peak 1 stoves, both built in the early 1980s, and I won't buy a new one unless I have no choice. The flame control from simmer to full works perfectly, and that is a huge plus when simmering pasta/sauce for 10 minutes. The one=piece design means no hooking up fuel tanks or anything, just gas and go. It can be tough to light on cold mornings (think mid-October in Maine), but pre-heating the generator helps resolve that. I have the original (brown) Peak 1. Full review

Esbit CS585HA Cookset for Solid Fuel

rated 3 of 5 stars This kit is very lightweight and durable. It is also very compact. I have had this kit for a few years now and have used it on more than one section hike. I do like the kit, however, if there is any chance of windy conditions, I wouldn't recommend it. I do like how small and compact the kit is. It really packs down small. It is very lightweight. I added a few things to the kit. Made the most of the empty space inside and only added a few ounces. I still use mine, however, for me I use it primarily… Full review

Jetboil Flash Cooking System

rated 4 of 5 stars The new 2018 Jetboil Flash is designed to boil water even faster than the original Flash. Jetboil’s Flash cooking system is a convenient option for the traditional or lightweight backpacker, who is looking to quickly boil water for hot drinks or dehydrated meals. Double the BTU’s? Jetboil DID IT. A mainstay in the outdoor industry, Jetboil was founded in New Hampshire of the USA in 2001. Their function-specific design has won millions over, and seem to be on every trail these days. Close-up… Full review

Optimus 8R

rated 5 of 5 stars Brilliant in the sort of way that makes people affectionate for the item, in the manner of Tellus vacuum cleaners and the Volvo cars of the time—well engineered, made to last, with sturdy design ethics. I include the instructions that came with the unit, for anyone out there that may find them useful. To prime the unit, I use the shell of an old de-needled syringe that I dip in the tank, place my finger over the hole in the top of the syringe hole to extract the Fuelite, place this in the priming… Full review

Jetboil milliJoule Cooking System

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Best thing about this stove is that it can be used with the fuel inverted for cold weather (below freezing) or at high altitude (+12k). I bought this to replace using a white gas stove. SETUP: Very simple setup—connect regulator to canister and you're ready to go. No need for any priming or pumping! IGNITION & FLAME CONTROL: Works great with the canister upright, just like any other JetBoil you can easily simmer with this in this configuration. When it gets to cold or you're too high for the… Full review

MSR DragonFly

rated 5 of 5 stars Why else would it be the most used stove on expeditions? I've owned and used the MSR WhisperLite, SimmerLite, and the Dragonfly's predecessor the Firefly that I bought in '81 when they first came out. The design of the Dragonfly has similarities with some major improvements. The Firefly was a white gas/Coleman fuel stove that would burn unleaded gas in a pinch, but it tended to clog the jet with bits of carbon and it wasn't fun to clear. The stove would shut down and after cooling it took removing… Full review

Jetboil Zip Cooking System

rated 1 of 5 stars Kookpot houder er niet standard bij!! [Cooking pot holder not standard!] Waardeloos dat er geen pot houder bij zit voor dat geld.  Na koken water krijg je de kop er niet af!! omdat hij uitzet en zich vast zet.  [Worthless that there is no pot holder for that money. After boiling water you will not get the head off !! because it expands and settles.] Full review

Chinese Canister Stove Knockoff

rated 5 of 5 stars I have several of the China produced canister stoves I purchased directly on eBay. I also have the Primus and wouldn't you know they all work great. The main difference is I didn't pay a U.S. based company to sell to a distributor to fill wholesale order for the retailer so that I could buy it marked up 500%-700%. I even found a $12 refill adapter for the canister to be used with a 20 lb./5 gal. propane bottle, so by saving my empties I refill several for less than $1, instead of $4-$6 for one can.
