Tilley LTM2 Airflow Hat

Bought this hat in 2017, after a few too many friends had come down with skin cancer. I think we all started with baseball caps that only offered the bill protection, after being introduced to Boonie Hats in the service, they offer a lot more protection and used those for 30 years until some friends developed skin cancer of various degrees and started to get serious about. I looked at the Tilley and price seemed high but most good things are. I have used on fishing trips, backpacking, and bird hunting… Full review

Tilley LTM2 Airflow Hat

The Tilley LTM2 provides the most sun protection of any hat I have owned, is extremely durable, water resistant, and very light and comfortable. It is expensive, does heat up a bit (Airflo works to a certain extent), and the wide brim doesn't work that well in wind or with a bug net. I expect to be wearing this on sunny trips for many years to come, backed up by the excellent Tilley lifetime guarantee. My Scottish genes mean I burn easily so I can't begin to estimate the amount of sunscreen I have… Full review

Outdoor Research Helios Sun Hat

Makes me look like a mature fisherman. I forget I'm wearing it. I've worn billed baseball type caps for decades and thought I'd try something different. This looked like it was worth a try and it is now my favorite hat. If it's not on my head, then it's hanging on my bedpost. Super light and packable fisherman style crush hat for great shade from the sun. I checked OR's fit guide and measured the circumference of my head to get a perfect fit. I don't cinch the headband drawstring, but find that… Full review

Toad&Co Americano Hat

The Americano Hat from Toad&Co is an attractive, lightweight, crushable Panama-style hat that provides excellent ventilation and protection from the sun. The Americano Hat from Toad&Co is an attractive, lightweight, crushable Panama-style hat that looks as good in town as it does on the trail. Even more important than looking good, it also protects your face from the harmful rays of the sun. I have a problem when I hike. I overheat unless it’s quite chilly out. In Sonoma County (Northern… Full review

Sunday Afternoons Adventure Hat

With the wide brim all the way around and the back flap, constructed of UPF 50+ soft nylon fabric, with multiple sizings and an adjustable strap in the back to help it fit your specific head, and a chin-strap to keep it on, this is the most comfortable and functional sun hat for kayaking or canoeing, hiking or trekking, or even gardening or yard work, that I've found. My dermatologist said that I needed to get a sun hat with a wide (3.5+ inch) brim and made of UPF protective fabric. The Sunday Afternoons… Full review

Outdoor Research Sombriolet Sun Hat

Outdoor Research's HUGE hat. Bought the medium size and it fits well in my 56cm head after some minor fine-tuning with the drawcord. The microfiber headband that OR calls TransAction is very soft and comfortable and wicks sweat evenly in a radial pattern (obviously) resulting in accelerated evaporation due to the larger surface area of the brim. The brim is not round as someone would except but kinda oval to provide better coverage for the back of the neck. Sombriolet also features a front vent… Full review

Headsweats ProTech Hat

Fantastic, breathable hat that shades your neck. I live in Arizona and this hat makes hot runs bearable. There are a couple of features on this hat that elevate it from sun hats by others such as Sunday Afternoons, Tilley, REI, and Outdoor Research (all of which I've purchased prior to this hat). The biggest difference is breathability. The material used in this hat doesn't trap the heat as much as the other hats, so sweat and heat dissipate faster. Secondly, the cape or drape on the back of the… Full review

Outdoor Research Sombriolet Sun Hat

An all-around great hat for keeping the sun off my bald head and neck. Very comfortable, breathable, and lightweight. After many years of wearing ball caps, this summer I switched to a full-brim hat for summer hiking, canoeing, and other adventures. The main reason for the switch was because I was tired of lathering up my ears and neck with sunblock, only to get fried anyways. The OR Sombriolet has solved my issues and much more! (Very) leisurely paddling the Allegheny River. Fit and Comfort:I have… Full review

Tilley LTM6 Airflo Hat

Bought my Tilley today!!!! I have wanted a Tilley for years. I wouldn't buy it because it cost too much. I just recently had a life threatening health experience. I'm gonna be fine. But it's time to cross off my bucket list items. I'll start with the Tilley I bought today. I'm excited. Full review
