Hyperlite Mountain Gear 4400 Southwest

Retailers' Descriptions

Here's what other sites are saying:

Think of the Southwest as our "close quarters" trail pack. When the route is thick with vegetation that fails to recognize personal space requires the occasional up and over immovable objects and calls for "suck in your gut and shimmy through" type moves the Southwest's solid and durable DyneemaA(R) Hardline panel pockets will keep those contents you want to easily grab throughout the day protected and free from any unwanted snags. The superlight and time-tested main compartment of the Southwest is constructed with 100 waterproof DyneemaA(R) Composite Fabrics so regardless of where your chosen trail is heading and despite what Mother Nature feels like sharing each day your chances of unpacking dry gear at camp are better than great. The 4400 volume size (70L) is ideal for four-season weekend section or thru hikes where resupply points are less frequent bulkier cold weather gear is required or the route calls for a packraft to complete it. The 4400 can carry it all.For the best experience possible with our backpacks we recommend you complete your pack with our Pods and Stuff Sacks. They're the key to a comfortable highly-organized and nearly 100 waterproof pack system.Weight2.45 lbs 39.31 oz 1114gWeight may vary slightly by torso size.FeaturesMade in MaineThree external solid Hardline with DyneemaA(R) pocketsRemovable contoured aluminum staysHardline with DyneemaA(R) shoulder straps with 3/8" closed cell foam and spacer meshInternal plastic frame sheet for added back panel support1/4" foam back panel padCompression SystemRoll-Top closure system with side compression straps for vertical compressionSide compression straps for horizontal compressionTop Y-strap compression -- Designed to secure gearHardline with DyneemaA(R) dual-density hip belt with 1/8" closed cell rigid foam 1/4" closed cell foam and spacer meshHardline with DyneemaA(R) zippered pockets on hip belt with #5 YKK zipperAdjustable sternum strap with self-tensioning elasticIce Axe loopHydro port and internal mesh hydro sleeveFour exterior triglide buckles for optional pack accessory strapsProprietary seam sealing on all side seams and behind all sewn-on pack featuresWeight:2.45 lbs 39.31 oz 1114gWeight may vary slightly by torso size.Load capacity: Up to 60 lbsMaterials:Body: DCH150 Bottom: DCH150External Pockets: Hardline with DyneemaA(R)Click here to learn more about our fabrics.Volume:Internal: 4400 cu. in. - REI

Spend a week trekking around the desert with all the camping gear you need tucked into Hyperlight Mountain Gear's ultralight 4400 Southwest Backpack. Despite its ultralight weight, the Southwest is surprisingly comfortable and durable enough for long hikes. Its Dyneema Hardline suspension system includes spacer mesh foam at the shoulder straps, back panel, and waist belt, and there are supportive aluminum stays that you can remove for even less weight. Hyperlite Mountain Gear made this pack out of the same Dyneema rope fabric used to catch climbers when they fall, so you know it will last for many seasons to come. The Southwest also has a roll-top closure and taped seams for reliable protection in wet weather. There's an internal sleeve styled for hydration reservoirs (not included), and a loop designed for ice axes. The Southwest also has external snag-free pockets, zippered waist belt pockets for trail essentials, and top and side compression straps for a secure load.
